We’re saying goodbye to the app, and returning to where it all began 💕

After much reflection, we’ve made the heartfelt decision to close The Food Medic app on Wednesday 30th July 2025. Here’s what you need to know. 

Why we’re making this change

While the app helped us grow and expand our offering, it also introduced ongoing technical challenges and demands that pulled us away from what matters most: delivering accessible, evidence-based health education. To keep up with the pace of development in the app space, we would have needed to raise prices, introduce paywalls, and prioritise growth over quality — and that just didn’t sit right with us.

Instead of pushing toward a model that could have made things more expensive and less accessible for you, we’ve chosen to step back from the app. This move allows us to refocus our energy on creating valuable, practical content in ways that are simpler, more sustainable, and truly centred on your needs.

This is not the end of The Food Medic, it’s a coming back to ourselves.

We’re bringing everything back to a simpler, easier-to-use platform: The Food Medic Hub.

A note from Hazel

After much reflection and learning, we’ve made the difficult decision to close The Food Medic app and return to our original home – the Hub. 

This was not an easy decision, but one made with clarity and purpose. I’ve been nervous to share this update, and if I’m honest, it’s felt like a bit of a failure at times. But when I sit with it, I know this decision brings us closer to the original purpose behind The Food Medic.

When I first created The Food Medic back in 2021, it was to create a space where people could learn how nutrition and lifestyle influence their health in a meaningful, evidence-based way. Our custom-built app was an ambitious leap to deepen that mission. We wanted to create the app from scratch, because no off-the-shelf platform could house everything we wanted to offer. 

However, over time, it became clear that the complexity, cost, and technical challenges of the app were pulling us away from what matters most: impact, not scale.

I’m not sharing this to dwell on the difficulties, but to be transparent about the realities of building something from the ground up. We could have sought investment to scale and compete with the biggest players in the digital health scene, but that would have meant chasing growth for its own sake and moving even further away from the mission that started it all.

So what’s next?

We’re bringing everything back to a simpler, easier-to-use platform: the new and improved Food Medic Hub. You’ll still have access to our full library of recipes, articles, and past webinars – just without the training plans. Any surplus revenue will be reinvested back into the platform and community, whether that’s through new content, community initiatives, improved user experience, or funding free or discounted access, for those who need it.

If you’re a current member, we’ll be sending you another email tomorrow Thursday 10th July detailing everything you need to know below to move across to the new platform. We truly hope you’ll stay part of this community,  we’d love to have you with us on this next chapter 💛

What you need to do

I subscribed via the app store or Google Play, what do I need to do?

If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, you’ll need to cancel your subscription directly via your device:

  • Apple: Go to Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions > Cancel subscription

  • Google Play: Open the Google Play Store > Menu > Subscriptions

  • Then, log in to your Food Medic account via the web and also cancel your subscription here: Account > Subscription > Cancel Subscription.

Once both are cancelled, you can resubscribe to the Hub using code FREEMONTH at checkout.

IF you subscribed to an annual membership, you will need to contact Apple or Google directly for your pro-rata refund.

I subscribed via the hub web browser, what do I need to do?

Log into your Food Medic account, go to Account > Subscription, and click Cancel Subscription.

Once cancelled, resubscribe to the new Hub and use the code FREEMONTH for a free month.

IF you subscribed to an annual membership, your pro-rata refund will be done automatically by the team. You will still need to cancel your membership yourself.

    While the app allowed us to offer a custom experience, the complexity, ongoing costs, and technical challenges were pulling us away from our core mission: to provide accessible, evidence-based health and lifestyle guidance that makes a real impact.

    Returning to the Food Medic Hub means we can:

  • Welcome back! If you were using the old app, here’s what you need to do to become a member on our new hub:

    1. Cancel your subscription on both the app store and your Food Medic web account:

    Apple: Go to Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions

    Google Play: Open the Google Play Store > Menu > Subscriptions

    Web account: Log in here as usual > Account > Subscription > Cancel Subscription

    Once cancelled, head to the new Food Medic Hub here and re-subscribe using the code FREEMONTH at checkout for your free month.

    This ensures you’re not double-charged and have full access to everything in the new Hub!

  • Yes! We’ll issue you a pro-rata refund for any remaining time on your annual plan.

    IF you subscribed to an annual membership via your Apple or Google Play account directly, you will need to contact Apple or Google directly for your pro-rata refund.

  • You may be eligible for a refund if:

    1/ You’re on an annual plan with unused time left

    2/ You subscribed mid-month and are transitioning before your billing period ends

    3/ You experienced a billing error.
